Overview
Lucidity AutoScaler is a cloud-agnostic storage optimization service that automatically expands and shrinks block storage in real time — without downtime and without impacting application performance. It continuously monitors volume utilization on virtual machines and ensures there is always enough storage available while eliminating waste from unused capacity.
The industry-first, Lucidity AutoScaler can automatically shrink and expand your block storage based on your workload, and with zero human effort leading to following key benefits:
70% cost reduction
99.999% Availability
Zero Manual Interventions
Zero downtime scaling
Automatic cost optimization
Lucidity AutoScaler supports all major public clouds:
AWS – Elastic Block Store (EBS)
Azure – Managed Disks
GCP – Persistent Disks

How Lucidity AutoScaler Works
Lucidity operates through a lightweight agent installed on each VM and a secure cloud-hosted control plane. The lightweight agent runs on each host instance, continuously monitoring storage utilization and sending these metrics to the Lucidity AutoScaler backend. The agent also receives and executes scaling instructions.
The Lucidity AutoScaler backend analyzes the incoming utilization data and determines when scaling actions are required. All cloud-provider interactions—such as attaching or detaching volumes—are performed centrally by the Lucidity AutoScaler backend, while the agent handles local execution on the host.

The Scaling Operations
Expansion
When disk utilization reaches the defined threshold:
A new disk is created and attached automatically.
The filesystem is extended to use the new storage.
Applications continue running without interruption.
Shrink
When disk utilization falls below the target:
Lucidity identifies the best disk to remove.
Data is safely moved to remaining disks using OS-native methods.
The empty disk is detached and deleted to reduce cost.
No downtime and no application performance impact.
Both operations are live, secure, and fully auditable.

Security by Design
Lucidity AutoScaler is built with a strong security foundation:
Not in the I/O data path
The agent never touches or inspects customer application data — only controls storage provisioning.
Only sends minimal usage metadata
No PII, PHI, PSI, or business content ever leaves the customer environment.
Encrypted communication
All communication is outbound-only over secure TLS channels.
Least-privilege access
Required permissions are restricted to storage management actions only.
Consistent controls across AWS, Azure, and GCP
Uniform behavior regardless of the cloud provider.
Getting Started With Lucidity AutoScaler
The magic takes just three steps:
One-Time Cloud Account Integration
A least-privilege role is set up to allow Lucidity to perform safe storage operations using native cloud APIs.
One-Time Agent Installation per VM
A minimal-footprint agent monitors disk utilization and executes autoscaling actions. Installed with zero downtime.
Disk Onboarding
Lucidity discovers attached disks, verifies supportability, and enables automated scaling for selected onboarded disks.
Once these steps are complete, scaling becomes fully hands-off. All of the above steps can be fully automated and customized based on enterprise requirements.
