Overview
The Lucidity Assessment for AWS helps you quickly analyze your cloud storage utilization and uncover optimization opportunities — without requiring any agent installation or data movement. The Lucidity Assessment for AWS delivers quick insights on:

How Does it Work
With AWS let us explore each step-by-step of the Assessment Tool:
Depending on the Assessment Mode:
Dashboard-based Assessment - Customer Logs into Lucidity Dashboard
Desktop-based Assessment - Customer Downloads the Assessment App to local host such as an EC2 instance or laptop, installs and opens app.
In both the modes the user chooses the Cloud Provider they want to assess - AWS in this case.
After choosing the Assessment Mode, the customer chooses the Authentication Method:
IAM Role(Recommended) - Supports Multi Account Assessment. An IAM role is created in each account in-scope of assessment. You can pre-create such roles in-advance or create it from Lucidity Assessment App.
Client Credentials - Supports single Account Assessment. Users must pre-create an IAM User in target AWS Account along with Access Key and Secret Key for assessment.
Note
This step remains the same for both Assessment modes chosen at step 1.
The permissions granted to IAM User or IAM Role for assessment decides the Permission Mode and actions that can be performed by Application during Assessment.
Once the appropriate IAM Role or IAM User has been created and provided to Assessment App, the following key action takes place:
Depending on Assessment Mode:
Dashboard-based Assessment - Provisions an isolated environment for assessment
Desktop-based Assessment - Downloads latest dependencies
Assessment App authenticates with AWS based on Authentication Method chosen in step 2
Once authenticated, assessment app pings each VM to:
Read VM Metadata
Read Disk Metadata
Based on Permission Mode, Lucidity Assessment App configures EC2 for AWS SSM and fetches Disk Utilization using native commands.
Collect Cost Report
The Metadata is collected and analysed by Lucidity to provide cost savings.(Optional for Desktop App Based Assessment)

Authentication Methods
Lucidity supports two authentication methods for AWS assessments — both available for Dashboard and Desktop Application based Assessment.
Method | Usage | Description |
|---|---|---|
IAM Role (Recommended) | Multi-account or multi-region assessments | Requires creation of a Lucidity IAM Role in each AWS Account under assessment. |
Client Credentials | Single account or where IAM Role creation is restricted | Uses an IAM User’s Access Key & Secret Key for read-only operations. |
